NEW LEADERS FOR NEW SCHOOLS OFFERS NEW VISION FOR SCHOOL LEADERSHIP

Washington, DC (October 15, 2009) – A new report released today by New Leaders for New Schools calls for the entire education field – the federal government, states, local school systems, and philanthropic funders in particular – to fundamentally re-define effective school leadership and to align their policies to this new definition, especially to drive strategies for effective teaching and to support effective turnarounds of low-performing schools. The report, entitled PRINCIPAL EFFECTIVENESS: A New Principalship to Drive Student Achievement, Teacher Effectiveness, and School Turnarounds with Key Insights from the UEFTM, sets forth an evidence-based vision for principal effectiveness rooted in deep accountability for making student achievement gains and in developing quality teachers to meet that goal.

15 September NEW LEADERS FOR NEW SCHOOLS WINS INNOVATIONS IN AMERICAN GOVERNMENT AWARD
Harvard Kennedy School's Ash Institute Honors Initiative to Improve Academic Achievement in Inner City Schools

CAMBRIDGE, MA (Sepember 15, 2009) - The Ash Institute for Democratic Governance and Innovation at the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University announced New Leaders for New Schools in partnership with the Chicago Public School District as a 2009 Innovations in American Government winner. New Leaders for New Schools is one of six government innovations honored (out of 1,000 applicants) and the only nonprofit to win in the 20 year history of the award. A short film called 2009 Visionaries, a PBS-produced documentary, highlights this year's Innovations winners, including New Leaders for New Schools. A full 30 minute episode on New Leaders for New Schools will air this spring.

Oprah's Angel Network Pledges $110,000 to Premiere School Leadership Program for the Benefit of Chicago's Children

CHICAGO (May 21, 2009) - Oprah's Angel Network awarded $110,000 to New Leaders for New Schools Chicago to support its nationally recognized program devoted to urban education reform through cutting-edge principal training. New Leaders for New Schools has partnered with Chicago Public Schools since 2001; 120 New Leaders are driving change and ensuring student achievement for nearly 50,000 Chicago Public School children.


5 March Charter School Achievement Model Measures Effectiveness Nationwide Achievement model is the only active cross-state, value-added comparison of charter schools; 21 public charter schools recognized for student success improvements
NEW YORK (March 5, 2009) - The Effective Practice Incentive Community (EPIC), an initiative of New Leaders for New Schools, today announced the conclusion of the second year of a major, crossstate analysis of charter school achievement. Using a value-added model to analyze performance data from nearly 150 high-need charter schools across the country during the 2007-2008 school year, EPIC identified 21 schools that have made the most dramatic gains in student achievement.
